The Long Hunter: A New Life of Daniel Boone
Published in Hardcover by Random House (January, 1976)
Author: Lawrence. Elliott
Average review score:

Boone without the Myths
Daniel Boone is a man lost in legend, "Mythologised heyond recognition". His true story is certainly more incredible and indeed astonishing than anything fiction could dream up. Even in his own lifetime he was feted for his incredible abilities.

Boone's abilities were apparent from his earliest childhood in mid-eighteenth century pioneer America. He had an uncanny sense of direction and ability to find his way around. He kept moving west through Kentucky to Missouri and even went as far as Yellowstone Lake on one trip. Yet despite opening up vast new territories for new settlers he died without owning an acre of land. In that time he had worked with and fought against the Indians, served with the American's in the War of Independence, narrowly missing being captured, and seen at least two of his children killed before their time.

I loved this biography by Elliot. I felt he really stripped back the layers of myth, carefully weighing up different accounts and the veracity of them while telling his story. The result is a small insight into the private life of a private man as well as his amazing public acts. I often wondered if Diana Gabaldon read this biography when working on her Outlander series, or maybe she had a Daniel Boone-ish sort of character in mind to base her character of Jamie on when he reached America.

The Long Night (The Library of Alabama Classics)
Published in Paperback by Univ. of Alabama Press (December, 1988)
Authors: Andrew Lytle and Frank Lawrence, Jr. Owsley
Average review score:

Best Civil War novel ever !
This the the first novel by the great critic a much neglected-novelist, Andrew Lytle. The story is narrated by an older uncle to his nephew during one long night as he tells the story of his Alabama family around the period of the Civil War. Like Cold Mountain, Lytle's research and knowledge of the customs, speech, and lifestyle of his characters is perfect. Though this was his first novel, you'll see Lytle was already a master of fiction. When you're finished read "The Fathers" the Civil War novel by Lytle's friend poet, Alan Tate.

Author: Gordon D. Lawrence
Average review score:

Establishing optimal college classrooms.
Lawrence's book is an excellent addition to the emerging literature on generating peak performance through classroom and teacher congruence with type. Clear, crisp, suucinct, it is the tool of choice for introducing community college professors to using the MBTI for individualizing classroom instruction. Those familiar with the work of Janet Levine will find this work a rich tool for expanding their sensitivity to individualized gifts beyond the enneagram.

The Lords of Dus
Published in Hardcover by Wildside Press (October, 2002)
Author: Lawrence Watt-Evans
Average review score:

An Enduring Classic
Watt-Evens is a brilliant fantasy writer, and here at last is his masterpiece, all collected in one place. This four book series is rightly help up in the first rant of epic fantasy with Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings. The story is more in line with Moorcock's Elric series, dealing as it does with the doings of Gods and demonic blades, but Watt-Evens' work is far superior to Moorecock's. Watt-Evens' three dimensional characters have realistic reactions to their bizarre circumstances, and his world is fleshed and surprise filled. Each book is worthy of five stars and the whole series is almost to good to be true. Recommended to any fantasy fan.

Exciting, Thrilling, and Suspensive
I live in New Orleans, and was excited about reading this book written by two New Orleans Detectives. When all the news broke about the New Orleans cemetary thefts, it broke my heart. Reading this book gave me a sense of justice in that the citizens of New Orleans will not tolerate this kind of evil.

Lost Souls: A Cry to Recapture What Is Disappearing from American Education
Published in Hardcover by B's Hive Pub (October, 1997)
Author: Tammi Ann Lawrence
Average review score:

A really good book
This book, displays a wonderful topic! American edjucation definetly needs some help! I personally think it is very important that Ms. Lawrence spoke out about it! Now a days, way to many schools follow a criculum that values the teachers more than the children, wich in my eyes is totally wrong! All hats off to this author for a wonderful book that teachers every where should be reading!

Louise Bourgeois: Drawings & Observations
Published in Hardcover by Bulfinch Press (April, 1996)
Authors: Louise Bourgeois, Lawrence Rinder, University Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, and N.Y.) Drawing Center (New York
Average review score:

A glimpse into the mind of a great artist...
Browsing through this book of sketches is like reading Bourgeois' personal diary. These drawings seem to be the ones she made only for herself, to figure things out and generate more ideas. This is not her "finished" work, so don't expect "LB's Greatest Hits", but any true fan of this artist will delight in seeing her sketchbooks come to life and reading her thoughts and memories of the drawings. Full of rich spontaneity & wit.
